Too harsh Smokers should have to pay tax on their cigarettes, but there needs to be a limit Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is to be commended for trying to find ways to provide health care to the more than 300,000 Kansans who dont have health insurance. But her proposal for a 50 cent tax increase on each pack of cigarettes needs some modification. The cigarette tax is just part of the governors proposal. It also includes elements such as subsidies to small companies to help them provide health insurance to their employees.
REMOVING THE FLAVOR House Bill 2552 would ban the sale of cigarettes that have “any fruit, chocolate, vanilla, honey, candy, mint, cocoa, dessert, alcoholic beverage, herb or spice flavoring.” Menthol-flavored cigarettes arent included.
